Last year, the Colbury Rifle and Pistol Club celebrated its Centenary.
The main event was the national postal short-range prone smallbore competition. We attracted 292 competitors from 57 clubs across the UK, from Orkney to Jersey and Cornwall to Essex. Even six Gurkhas, shooting with the Abergavenny club, entered.
The competition consisted of two rounds of four cards and the competitors were split
into six classes. The top twenty from each class progressing to Round 2. The standard
of entries was incredibly high with Peter Pearce (Sarisbury Rifle Club) winning with a
2nd round score of 399 and an overall score of 795.
Selkirk’s father and son duo, Eric and Darren Brown, proudly carried away A Class Silver and C Class Gold respectively. And, we were amazed by the accuracy of the members from St Brelade, Jersey whose leading shooter, Andy Chapman returned scores of 397 and 394 on 15 yard targets!
Only one of our members was among the winners – Dave Bryant (whose great uncle was a founder member) with a Bronze in B Class.
Dr. Julian Lewis MP, our President, also came up trumps as the highest scoring Colbury
member in his Class.

We held our Centenary AGM on 11 November 2011 (100 years to the day from issue of the club’s original Range Safety Certificate). Mary Maiden (Hon. Secretary of the Hampshire Association) kindly agreed to present the club’s annual prizes and Peter Pearce joined us to receive his Centenary Medal, brooch, cloth badge and 500 rounds of Eley Match ammunition. The evening was perfectly rounded off when we were invited to “help out” another group also using the Hall as they had oversupplied their refreshments. What a feast!
